Beijing Commune presents Ma Qiusha's new solo exhibition No. 52 Liulichang East Street on the occasion of Gallery Weekend Beijing in 2023.

...the door was ajar and unlocked, the TV blared with a soccer game on the screen, with nobody at home. I entered the room, shivering, with a sense of something ominous. My anxiety grew as I looked around. Oh dear, all the drawers and cabinets were left open. I panicked and ran straight to the cabinet where the box was hidden. I searched inside for a long time. My fingers were yearning to touch something cold and hard, but there was nothing left. I emptied the cabinet, tossing all the clothes onto the floor. As I peered inside, nothing but a dim void...In that moment, time stood still. I did not know how long it took. My parents only came back from work very late that day. They spent a long time cleaning up the mess. still came back home on sunny afternoons from school, but the casket was no longer here.

It was not until early 2023 I stumbled upon a photo of the casket in a link when I was browsing online. And just like that, we met again, 32 years later.
