Wang Guangyi was praised as the sponsor of the "political pop" in China. 29 items of Wang’s work sold at the international influential auctions of Sothebys and the Guardian in 2010 and raised a total of 45 million His current exhibition displays more than 100 pieces of works from 1989 to 2010, including installations, photographs, and other pieces, among which are his manuscripts, sketches and creations that have never before been seen by the public. As the Curator Yu Ke comments on Wang Guangyi's “The Interactive Mirror Image” which takes place in Chongqing— and represents symbols of the process of urbanization in Chinese society, thus hoping that in this exhibition space in western China which has a significant regional flavor there could be an opportunity to successfully hold an exhibition that is different from the run of the mill exhibitions.
In addition, the exhibition "Wang Guangyi: The Interactive Mirror Image” together with “Luo Zhongli: Track of the Language ", "Zhang Dali: Extreme Reality", "Zhang Xiaogang: The Shadow of the Soul", "Fang Lijun: Occasional Fable" " Time Walker—Ye Yongqing’s Twenty Years in Huangjiaoping "," Cui Youwen: The Language of The Self "and the upcoming exhibitions of He Duoling, Zhou Chunya at the Tank Loft Arts Center Of Chong Qing, will constitute the organic combination of " Laboratory Report: visual archives about Chinese Contemporary Art ". The Tank Loft Arts Center expects that in the coming year, through the research of "Laboratory Report " series, this will provide a good reference text for the development of Chinese contemporary art .
Wang Guangyi: Born in 1957, Harbin, China. In 1984, he graduated from Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts and now lives in Beijing. He is a professional artist, known as the sponsor of China's "political pop", and is one of the most representative artists in the “85 New Wave movement”. Wang Guangyi is an arrow-type character of contemporary avant-garde art and his works are recognised as guiding posts marking the trend of contemporary Chinese avant-garde art. As the first person to experiment and as a typical representative of China’s Pop Art in the 90s,Wang Guangyi is extremely sensitive to the core of Pop Art, he combined the Great Criticism images of the peasants and soldiers during the "Cultural Revolution" along with today's popular images such as Coca-Cola and cosmetics and removed the so-called typical painter style as much as possible to show the audience directly the existence of a contemporary life.
