Jointly hosted by Hubei Museum of Art and Taiwan Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, “The Other•The Distance – Cross-Strait Contemporary Art Exchange Exhibition” unveiled on April 25, 2014. The exhibition showcases 30 pieces (sets) of works by 30 cross-strait artists (which includes 15 works by 15 artists from Taiwan), and the categories cover easel painting, video, installation, etc.
The cross-strait fine arts take Chinese culture as the noumenon, after experiencing a series of variations which were caused by various factors such as history, politics, economy, foreign communication, it presents a diversified appearance with multiple angles. In such a contemporary context, the cross-strait art exchange activity is obviously important, because when it guides people to probe the cultural origin, it creates many issues which are worthy of our thoughts, for example, the internal migration of the crisscrossed and overlapped real scenery, the significance of cultural references in the context of globalization, as well as the exploration of multi-directional observation for contemporary art, etc.
“The Other •The Distance – Cross-Strait Contemporary Art Exchange Exhibition” conveys personal life experiences through the show of cross-strait artists’ works and social reflection, meanwhile also providing more angles for the audience to read and putting forward more possible directions of visual dialogue inside the space of art museum.
In addition, “The Other •The Distance – Cross-Strait Contemporary Art Exchange Exhibition” is about to be held at Taiwan Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts at the end of the year.
