On January 5, 2015, MCACAA will launch a brand new series of exhibitions “1:1 Plan”, and it initially presents two artists, Professor Su Xinping from CAFA and Professor Qiu Zhijie from CAA.
Professor Su Xinping from CAFA and Professor Qiu Zhijie from CAA, graduated from the Department of Printmaking of CAFA and CAA, now their arts are not only renowned at home and abroad but they are also in-service teachers teaching at the two schools. MCACAA chooses the two artists to jointly hold the exhibition which aims to offer a cultural research centre for Chinese art circles that focuses on debating issues of “academy is not a cradle for cultivating artists”. It prepares a series of relevant academic seminars, face-to-face exchange meeting of the artists and audiences to widen the understanding from all sides.
“Su Xinping: My Way” showcases the development of the artist’s creative career over many years, which is a precious demonstration of its significance for young people who are on the road towards creating artworks while at the same time a lot of literature and evidence of thinking encourage the audience to find a resonant place. The work of “Qiu Zhijie: Qiu’s Annotation of the Lantern Festival Plan” further reveals the mysterious relationship between “people and art” for the audience in a different form.
“Su Xinping: My Way” exhibition, takes “Experience and Transcendence”, “The Lost Fable”, “Pending” as the clue to carry on the detailed combing and analysis of Su Xinping’s creative course. In regards to the artist’s monologue, the critics’ narrator and the dialogue of the artist act as the best footnotes of Su Xinping’s path to art and presents more than 200 works.
Each individual subject is the core to generate the ideology, language style and method of the artist, each artist has a different experience, while the artistic uniqueness is derived from different paths. Su Xinping has been trying, through continuous experimentation, to find his own unique language style and method. The early lithographs and “The Sea of Desire”, “Cheers”, or the “Landscape” and “Eight Things” and other series have as their purpose the hope of using a more accurate and unique language to express the relationships between people, people and society, and humans and nature, perhaps this discovery requires the artist to work hard throughout his life.
Qiu Zhijie began the “Lantern Festival Plan” in 2010, starting from research in ancient painting the “Lantern Festival Figure” of the Ming Dynasty, it deduces a huge framework in creation/games/research, it is a historical novel of the narrative ways of Chinese history and draws on the genetic map.” In this work, Qiu Zhijie showcases his open thinking process and the capability of composing from a cavalier perspective, giving him an excellent sample in artistic practice of the ‘archaeological/imaginative’ dimensions.” – Bao Dong (curator and critic)
“Qiu Zhijie’s large-scale series of work ‘Qiu’s Annotation of the Lantern Festival Plan’ and from countless combined installations one can experience the wisdom of life and the meticulously organized spiritual contextual relationship, enlightening familiar slang, allusions and everyday experiences (namely the so-called cultural research and reconstruction of the visual image), that life is a clue to great discovery.” – Yang Jinsong
