Hive Center for Contemporary Art is pleased to announce the opening of "The Moving Images: Liu Guoqiang Solo Exhibition" , the 17th edition for Hive-Becoming project, on Mar. 17th, 2016 at the Hall C/D/E. Curated by Wang Yini, the exhibition will last until April 17th, 2016.
Born in 1988, Liu Guoqiang graduated from the Intermedia Art faculty of China Academy of Art, under the instruction of Zhang Peili, who is called "the father of Chinese contemporary video art". In the same year, he participated Beijing Caochangdi Documentary Video Festival; In 2012, he joined the "Focuse on Talents Project" and the exhibition for nominated artists realized at Today Art Museum. In 2015, he was nominated by the "Luo Zhongli Scholarship" Committee, and participated in Photo Shanghai, included in the project of OCAT.
Liu Guoqiang manages various medias for his works, included installations, videos, paintings, photography and even performance. Usually his works present simple, quiet, restrained characteristics, which visually shows a minimal style; relying on his own high sensitivity, he detected the blind spot of daily experience and cognitive gap of common routine in the life. The images from the "common senses" and "general rules" point on paradoxes in time, movements and its physical dimension, from which he provides concepts with reference to the limitation and absurdity of human's cognition.
"The Moving Images" is Liu Guoqiang's first show, it will display the artist's recent videos, paintings and photography. Images are innocent; the initiator place them at the entrance of a meaning-world, audiences will find between the content-ideas their own explanation, which will be in and out of the common world.
