RMCA announces "Being and Inking – Documenting Contemporary Ink Art (2001-2016)" opening June 5 in Guangzhou

Organized by Redtory Museum of Contemporary Art (RMCA), curated by the famous art critic Pi Daojian and young scholar Yan Yong, the large international art exhibition "Being and Inking – Documenting Contemporary Ink Art (2001-2016)" will be launched on Redtory Museum of Contemporary Art at the afternoon of June 5, 2016. At the date of the opening ceremony, the following art critics Liu Xiaochun, Wang Huangsheng, Lu Mingjun, Hu Bin, Yan Yong, Wei Xiangqi, and so on who will be invited to attend the academic dialogue with the special topic of "The Ink Character in Ink Art".

This exhibition is the most important special subject literature study show followed after "China: 20 years of ink experiment (1980-2001) " of Guangdong Museum of Art in 2001 planned by Pi Daojian and Wang Huangsheng, who was the curator. The artistic work will be divided into two big special subjects, that is, "Being and Inking", followed by five units, including "Savoring Hsiang", "Viewing Tao", "New World", "Substance-Function" and "Circulation-Alternation". The 61 participating artists came from China mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, the United States and other regions and countries. The curator believes that the Ink Art is an important channel increasing "some other modernities" for the numerous and complicated pictures of the contemporary world by oriental traditional culture essence since the new century, under the numerous and complicated vision and the complex context where oriental and occidental cultures communicate back and forth, make present and intercomparison with each other. The purpose of such exhibition is trying to reveal the diversity of contemporary art from the angle of "the world", make out various on-going changes in Ink Art field in the situation of "Departing-Arriving", thus clearly showing an open, future-oriented and global-vision Ink Art system and its development trend.

The exhibition will show more than 60 items on display including painting, image, installation, behavior and so on. There will be two behaviors occur on opening ceremony, one is the installation and behavior art work of artist Sherman Lin who will invite the curator and some famous artists and critics with significant contribution for Ink Art development to finish his work together; another one is artist Song Dong’s the new work of installation and behavior, Blank Stele, which will interactive with the audience. The exhibition will show the works of 60 artists through 4 display units with support by each other coordinated action. The exhibition will also introduce a special case that the exhibition "A Legacy of Ink Lui Shou-kwan 40 Years On" as part of it. The documents of the exhibition will record important exhibition activities and art events related to Ink Ark during 2001-2016, accompanied with important discussions of Ink Art in art critics.

The Organizer will hold an academic dialogue with the special topics of "The Contemporariness of InkArt" (by the end of June) and "On ways and senses of Circulation-Alternation and Substance-Function of Contemporary InkArt" (in the middle of July) during the exhibition period.

The exhibition will last until August 8.
