Matthew Liu Fine Arts is pleased to present Alps-Geographies and people, the Capri based Italian artist Olivo Barbieri’s first solo presentation at the gallery. The exhibition will be on view from September 3rd through October 31st, 2016, with an opening reception on Saturday, September 3rd from 4-7pm.
Olivo Barbieri is one of the most influential contemporary photographic artists. He is known for his innovative technique that allows him to capture macro landscape into miniatures, presenting the subtle yet abundant details and layers within. For his debut exhibition at the gallery, Matthew Liu Fine Arts will exhibit 9 selected works and 4 new works from the artist’s well-known 2012 series Alps-Geographies and people. As the artist states, “the subject of ‘Alps-Geographies and people’ presents how the mountain is perceived from the climbers’ point of view-it’s peaks and precipices, the mirages and hallucinations in its geography. In these images, everything is true. The proportion and the forms are real. Even the people and the positions they're in…those, too, are real.”
