Established in 2002 by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lyon with support from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional government, Rendez-vous is an international platform dedicated to emerging artists. Through an innovative method of artistic direction that brings together four institutions within France, Rendez-vous is organised by theBiennale de Lyon, the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon, the Institut d’art contemporain Villeurbanne/Rhône-Alpes (IAC), and the macLYON.
Rendez-vous is exhibited at the IAC during the Biennale de Lyon, and the following year in a different form outside of Europe. In 2008, Rendez-vous was presented at the Shanghai Art Museum, with residencies in Moscow, Beijing, Miami, and Buenos Aires; in 2010, Rendez-vous participated in the Shanghai Biennale; in 2012, Rendez-vous was presented at the South African National Gallery of Cape Town; in 2015, Rendez-vous was exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, LASALLE College of the Arts. In 2017, Rendez-vous will be held at the CAFA Art Museum in Beijing.The 2017 edition of Rendez-Vous in Beijing features 10 French and 6 Chinese artists:
