Gallery 55 announces that a group presentation by five young artists “The Winter Solstice” will be open on the 22nd of December, 2018. The participating artists include: Qi Wenzhang, Wang Hailong, Ye Qing, Yin Changzhi, and Zhang Zhenxue. The show is scheduled to end on the 27th of January, 2019.
Qi Wenzhang pays more and more attention to indescribable part of the painting. Terry Eagleton wrote in "Literary Theory: An Introduction": Literary language is not an ordinary language, but a manifestation of the "alienation" of the ordinary language. The three canvas works exhibited in this exhibition not only depict the reality in another way, but also re-understand the modernity process of Chinese painting. In the meantime, the alienation of painting is increasingly intensified.
Qi Wenzhang was born in China in 1981. Currently, he lives and works in Shanghai.
Wang Hailong has turned Western landscape painting into Eastern landscape situation, constructing his landscape painting with unique artistic form and charm. Through the replacement and dialogue between "water-mountain" and "landscape", Wang Hailong forms an unique visual image of the trees under the common reflection of lakes, rivers and sky. In his recent work, a kind of sunshine is embedded. The light becomes a quiet moment, looking at the beginning of existence and the present moment of the reverie world.
Wang Hailong was born in China in 1989. He graduated from China Academy of Art with a B.A. and a M.F.A. Currently, he lives and works in Hangzhou.
Ye Qing uses the standard realism painting techniques to portrait ordinary scenes/objects of his life on canvas. He purposely keeps distance from individual language, cultural inheritance, particularity, extremes, aesthetic value and visual nutrition. Ye Qing's emphasis is on gazing rather than appreciating, describing instead of expressing.
Ye Qing was born in China in 1977. He graduated from China Academy of Art in 1999. Currently, he lives and works in Hangzhou.
After Yin Changzhi's "Heteromorphism" series of painting, a face as a kind of heterogeneous sense of geometric order embedded the painting body's internal space of "Post heteromorphism" series, disassembling and controlling the growth of the body. Transparent color layer and jams paradoxically coexist, building a space diversity and division of feeling, like a body in a variety of system in the jungle on the verge of cutting split. The color mixes and ferments the gorgeous and the crude together, forming a more complex and frenzy system. The energy released is fragmented and ridiculous. Indifferent linear model terminates the appearance of expressionism. The picture tends to be a more mixed area. The order carried by the frame itself plays an important role in it. The flow of the body and the multi-layer space become the key words in the picture. The "Post heteromorphism" series of work aims at the interpretation and presentation of various relationships among body, system and space.
Yin Changzhi was born in China in 1984. He received a B.A. from Anhui Normal University in 2005; and a M.F.A from China Academy of Art in 2009. Currently, he lives and works in Wuhu.
Zhang zhenxue's picture effect is not only the result of thoughtful thinking and careful operation, but also the perfect embodiment of patience and rationality. In the process of rational thinking and technical advancement, Zhang Zhenxue tries to empty his brain. Thinking about nothingness takes a lot of energy, but practice sets Zhang Zhenxue free. He put a lot of energy into studying how to make the canvas absolutely flat, the flatness of the track, and how to scrape out the perfect plane with tools and so on. The complicated working process has gradually become the spiritual outlet of Zhang Zhenxue.
Zhang Zhenxue was born in China in 1982. He graduated from Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts with a Bachelor's Degree in Decorative Arts in 2006. In 2011, he received his M.F.A. in painting from Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. Currently, he lives and works in Chongqing.
