China has a solid connection with the countries of ASEAN by sharing mountains, rivers and a humanistic relationship. We have jointly created splendid civilizations and formed unique multiple cultures over time. Jewelry designs from various countries of ASEAN and China are so exquisite and characteristic that they are acclaimed by customers in Asia and even all over the world. In 2021, “Solid Connection, Remarkable Synergy: Virtual Showroom of ASEAN-China Jewelry Art Exhibition” was presented to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN dialogue relationship and it showcased over several hundreds of jewelry works by more than 50 jewelry artists from China and 10 countries of ASEAN.

On November 12, 2021, as an important part of the Exhibition, “Design in the Asian Cultural Context: China-Thailand Creative Industry Seminar” gathered experts, scholars and designers in the field of jewelry design from China and Thailand to give speeches and offer discussions on three aspects: “Jewelry Design Education,” “Commercial Value of Designer Brands,” and “Traditional Thought and Contemporary Design.” The Seminar featured a discussion on the frontiers of design and education in China and Thailand, showcasing the teaching characteristics of Design Colleges in both countries, as well as the working status of outstanding young designers in China and Thailand, their international vision and local characteristics. The Seminar was hosted by Hang Hai, Professor from the School of Design at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Head of the Winter Olympic Design Project of CAFA Visual Art Innovation Institute and Rewat Chumnarn, Researcher and former Editor-in-chief Wallpaper*THAI EDITION, as the hosts of China and Thailand.

In November 2022, the virtual showroom of the ASEAN-China Jewelry Art Exhibition was officially launched online. Under the guidance of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and the China International Communication Group, the exhibition was co-hosted by the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and China Center for International Communication Development. Mr. Shi Zhongjun, Secretary-General of ACC, Mr. Arthayudh Srisamoot, Ambassador of Thailand to China, and Mr. Lü (Lyu) Pinjing, Vice President of CAFA sent congratulatory letters for the exhibition.

Mr. Lü (Lyu) Pinjing pointed out that the exhibition forms a visual dialogue and jointly promotes the in-depth exchanges between ASEAN and China in the field of art and design. It will play an important role in promoting people-to-people connectivity from both sides, and fuel to the construction of a new pattern of arts and design for the future in the context of Asian culture.

Mr. Shi Zhongjun stated in his remarks that the exhibition, themed by “Solid Connection, Remarkable Synergy”, aims to build a platform for facilitating exchanges between the cultural and creative industries of the two sides. It will further strengthen friendship and promote practical cooperation. ACC is ready to join hands with all parties to strengthen people-to-people ties and carry forward friendship, in order to contribute to building an amicable home for ASEAN and China.

Mr. Arthayudh Srisamoot emphasised that the exhibition established a meaningful platform for advancing the sharing of art and culture, as well as strengthening the mutual understanding among ASEAN and Chinese peoples. Thailand is delighted to be the Guest of Honor of this year’s exhibition and will remain committed to promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges in order to build a people-centered community for ASEAN and China.
This year marks the first year of ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the 31st Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relationship. Co-curated by Yue Jieqiong, Director of the Co-Innovation Center for Art Creation and Research on the Silk Road of CAFA and Zhang Fan, Associate Professor from the School of Design at CAFA, the exhibition is held both online and offline and it features 150 pieces/sets of jewelry by 36 artists from Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, in order to promote exchanges and mutual learning among different cultures, and express the best wishes to the ASEAN-China friendship. The curators introduced that the exhibited works reflect the organic combination of traditional culture and modern technology, and demonstrate the unique charm of ASEAN and Chinese cultures as well as the achievements of both sides in the field of arts and design. The living art traditions of jewelry designs from various countries can be seen in this exhibition, which also embody the future development of contemporary art design in these countries. These jewelry designs are displayed side by side to create a dialogue in a visual form and they will jointly contribute to the in-depth exchanges between China and ASEAN countries in the field of arts and design.

The exhibition is organised by the Co-Innovation Center for Art Creation and Research on the Silk Road of CAFA and Beijing E9 Zone Innovation Works, co-organised by Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, Guangxi Arts University and the ASEAN-China Arts Colleges Alliance, and supported by the Embassies of ASEAN Member States (AMS) in China, Embassy of China in Thailand and China Image Group. As Thailand is the Guest of Honor of the exhibition, the “Creative People Talk: Thailand-China Creative Industry Webinar” was also held. The China Image Group shot photos and videos of the exhibition which was held offline in Beijing, and established a permanent virtual showroom, which is promoted by People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, CNR News, Guangming Net, China Daily, China News, Huanqiu and other online platforms.
