Beijing Commune presents Carving Silence, Wang Lijun's second solo exhibition with the gallery, opening on November 30 2023. Underlining the artist's relentless effort in exploring form and space, the exhibition title implies a skein of paradoxes between the tangible and the intangible, the seen and the unseen, presence and absence.

Wang Lijun was born in 1982 in Hunan, China. He obtained his BA in Sculpture from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (China) in 2008, MA from CAFA in 2013, and Ph.D. from CAFA in 2022. He currently lives and works in Beijing. Wang Lijun's art practice, revolving around sculpture and installation, roots in his everyday life experience and pivots on the exploration of the physical and living space. Probing into ways of existence in space and knowledge, his work addresses the tension between the eternity of things and the temporality of feelings. Illuminating the folds of space, Wang attempts to reexamine the individual's relationship with the surroundings, the material world and the society.

Wang Lijun's works have been featured in Guangzhou Triennial (2023), The 9th Biennale City of Urbanism\Architecture (2023), Datong Sculpture Biennale (2018),etc. His solo exhibitions took place at Guangdong Museum of Art (Guangzhou), Beijing Commune (Beijing), Soka Art Center (Beijing) etc. His work has been included in group exhibitions at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts (Tianjin), OCT Art & Design Gallery (Shenzhen), Fei Arts (Guangzhou), CAFA Art Museum (Beijing),SCFAI Art Museum (Chongqing), Today Art Museum (Beijing), Times Art Museum(Beijing), Museu do Oriente (Lisbon), Rome's National Gallery of Modern andContemporary Art (Rome), etc.
