Exhibition View of “Inherit with Love: Continuity of Time and Media Innovation”
On September 28, 2025, the thematic exhibition “Inherit with Love: Continuity of Time and Media Innovation” curated and organized by X Museum, was officially opened to the public at Lang Yuan Station in Beijing. The exhibition brings together over a hundred works by artists from various generations, including outstanding creations by young artists selected from the “A Journey of a Thousand Miles”: National Graduation Exhibition of Art Academies, collection from X Museum and the X Sponsoring Council, as well as works publicly solicited from the TikTok platform. The works encompass various forms of creation, including painting, sculpture, calligraphy, video, and AI-generated media. Themed on “love”, the exhibition presenting multiple projections and expressions of love by linking diverse contexts, bridging generations, and integrating multiple media practices, thus promoting a dialogue between traditional viewing and the digital world.

Li Yaochen, co-curator of the exhibition, elaborated on the curating idea that the theme unfolds around two clues. The first one exists in the inter-generational transmission of passion for love within the artist community, emphasizing the flowing continuity of artistic spirit among generations of creators. Through a carefully curated artistic lineage, the exhibition showcases this path of inheritance: from the works by older-generation artists and educators from the Central Academy of Fine Arts such as Dong Zuyi and Cao Chunsheng, to the group of artists born in the 1950s and 1960s such as Shi Guoliang, Li Yanrong, Liu Yanhua, and Zhou Simin, and later to the artistic creations of the new generation including Lu Zhengyuan and Yang Xinguang. This highlights the unique “master-apprentice” relationship in art schools, constructing a complete dialogue field among three generations of artists—senior, middle, and young—thereby revealing the intrinsic driving force behind the continuous inheritance and development of art.

The second clue lies in the rich emotional expression contained within the artworks. The exhibition intends to explore the broader dimensions of “love” which are not limited to romantic love and familial love, and they also encompass a passion for art and a universal love for the world. This multifaceted exploration renders the theme abundant and profound, capable of touching audiences from different backgrounds. At the same time, the curator specifically mentioned that the presentation by X Museum at Lang Yuan aims to break the boundaries of traditional art museums, bringing art closer to a wider public. With “love”, a universal theme as a bridge, the exhibition encourages more visitors to engage with art, understand how art can uniquely express our lives and personal emotions, and experience the diverse facets of art.

Another feature of this exhibition lies in its considerations for communication. Through the collaboration with the TikTok, the exhibition has specially launched an online viewing function. Visitors can directly follow the artists on TikTok via accounts displayed next to the exhibits, while videos that have vividly presented the artists’ creative processes and the stories behind their works can be viewed online. TikTok also initiated the online topic attracting broader public interaction and exploring digital ways to extend the lifespan of this exhibition.
