Exhibition View of “The Great Sculpture Series: 90 Years of the Sculpture Discipline at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA)”

Hosted by CAFA and co-organized by the CAFA Sculpture Department and CAFA Art Museum, the exhibition themed on “The Great Sculpture Series: 90 Years of the Sculpture Discipline at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA)” was unveiled at CAFA Art Museum and throughout CAFA campus on October 26, 2024. Spanning a systematical review of the 90-year development of the CAFA Sculpture Department which was founded in 1934, the exhibition highlights the overall progress of this discipline at CAFA from its solid establishment to diversified education, from the sense of self-awareness in artists to academic spontaneity in its faculty members. By showcasing a significant number of classic masterpieces that are provided with “contemporary relevance”, “values of the people” as well as “the Chinese identity”, “The Great Sculpture Series” reflects the essence of national spirit, Chinese epoch, and a better life of the people. Generations of artists from CAFA have recorded the country’s development with their sculptural creations, and they commemorate our national struggles, mirror the spirit in epochal changes. Shouldering  the historic mission, they uphold the cultural consciousness and jointly contribute to the splendid heritage of the CAFA sculpture department over the past 90 years.

The exhibition will remain on view till November 24, 2024.
