Wang Huangsheng
Wang Huangsheng (b.1956 in Shantou, Guangdong Province) is a critic and curator, and Director of the Art Museum at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, where he also teaches in the Institue of Chinese Painting. Having received his B.A. and Ph.D. in Art History from the Nanjing Arts Institute in 1990 and 2006, respectively, he acted as the former director of the Guangdong Museum of Art and promoted large-scale events such as the Guangzhou Triennial and the Guangzhou Photo Biennial between 2000 and 2009. As former vice president of Guangdong Artist Association, director of China Artist Association, member of professional committee of the National Museum of Art, he has curated many important exhibitions and contributed a lot to the Chinese contemporary art. For his devotion and endeavors on arts, he attained Chivalry Honor awarded by Italy President in 2006.
Interested in traditional Chinese painting and contemporary art, Wang has also provided editorial support for publications such as Museum of Arts without Walls (2004), Reinterpretation: A Decade of Experimental Chinese Art, 1990–2000 (2002) and 1st Space for Contemporary Ink Work — China: 20 Years of Ink Experiment 1980–2001,etc. His published books include a monograph about Art History, entitled Series of Research regarding Chinese Master painters in Ming and Qing Dynasties: Chen Hongshou (1995, Jilin Art Publishing company), Wang Huangsheng: Serene Universe” (Liaoning Art Publishing House, 1996), Wang Huangsheng: Art and Life (1998, The South Ocean publishing company), Daily episodes: Wang Huangsheng’s flower series (2005, Lingnang Art Publishing Company) and his other painting collections.
