A visitor is watching Les Demoiselles d'Avignon by Picasso
Shanghai Expo China Pavilion will kick off the anticipated Picasso exhibition, sponsored by the National Picasso Museum in Paris and Shanghai Tian Xie Development on October 18th. As a part of the Shanghai International Arts Festival, "2011 Picasso exhibition" will run for three months to January 10th next year. It features a total of 62 authentic artworks on display -- 48 oil paintings, seven sculptures and seven block prints. Some of Picasso's most famous works -- including "The Barefoot Girl," "Woman in Red Armchair" and "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" -- will be the highlights of this exhibition.
Since the People's Republic of China was founded, this exhibition is the biggest exhibition of Picasso’s works ever. What is more, 50 pieces of life photography about Picasso will also appear in the exhibition. Picasso’s seventy- year career resulted in the creation of more than 37,000 classical masterpieces, and the 2011 Shanghai exhibition will showcase pieces from his major periods including the Blue period, the Rose period, and cubism.

At the unpacked ceremony, the famous "clown Paul” showed up at China Pavilion. This painting was created by Picasso in 1925. Paul is Picasso's son whose mother is Picasso’s first wife Olga.Three months ago, "2011 Picasso Exhibition" was held in Taiwan, and this "clown Paul" with the highest number of votes attracted the eyes of visitors. In addition, 6 portraits of Picasso's seven major lovers during the whole life are in this exhibition. These lovers are: Feiernandai, Mary Tres, Olga (wife), Dora Martha, Francoise, Yake Lin (wife).
Picasso, widely acclaimed as one of the fathers of modern art, produced a vast collection of works over his lifetime that was full of passion and distinctly recognized as his own whether Cubist, Fauvist or Post-Impressionist. His artworks have fetched some of the highest prices ever recorded. Last year, “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” sold for a record breaking $106 million. According to the exhibition organizer, the paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings are part of the permanent collection of the Musee National Picasso in Paris, the largest and most significant repository of the artist's works in the world. They represent every stage in the career of the Spanish artist, who died in 1973.
