Planned by the Industrial Design Department, the School of Design at CAFA, the exhibition “Art of Light” opened on the 4th floor exhibition hall of building 7 at 1:30pm, on January 5, 2013.
The exhibition is a reporting exhibition of the foundation course of Industrial Design “Art of Light”, connected to the testing of the foundation courses across the school, embodying the recent teaching achievements of the related courses ahead of the professional foundation for industrial design, CAFA. Conventional topics are emphasized in producing “lamp”, which refers to the feedback from the last reporting exhibition which weakens the functionality of the product, and pays more attention to the understanding of the knowledge of craft material, therefore it chose to concentrate on a widespread lighting installation. Through the course, students learned that the structure of crafts are realized in the foundation and promise of industrial design, confirming their understanding of craft and structure in the process of ideas, drafts, and materials, learning the interactive relations between design and technology through repeated scrutiny.
The exhibition initially features the works of 27 sophomores that are majoring in industrial design. The course requires students to be free from the limitations of commercial products, with a special optical efficiency, reasonable structure, a certain conation of technology, in line with features of craft materials, fine products, and good performance. Believing in “rather than giving a man a fish, it is better to teach him how to fish”, it is a course that encourages students to study independently, finding their own working methods, at the same time helping students to understand the overall design course which includes ideas, research, products, and exhibitions.
