To highlight the artistic style and features of Chinese paintings, in a new era of letting a hundred flowers blossom while letting a hundred schools of thought contend, “2012 National Exhibition of Chinese Paintings” organized by the Chinese Artists Association, Shanghai Literature and Art Federation, Shanghai Culture, Radio, Film and Television Administration and Shanghai Artists Association aims to promote the tradition of Chinese painting and carry forward its spirit in the new century. It was co-organized by Pudong Branch of Shanghai Painting and Calligraphy Academy and the People’s Government of Gaodong County in Pudong New Area and it was inaugurated at the China Art Museum, Shanghai on December 28, 2012. As it publicized for entries from January 2012, it gained an overwhelming response from the art world of painters receiving numerous contributions, 3608 in total, which illustrates the prosperity of Chinese paintings. 251 finalists were selected from all the entries following impartial judging and public votes, among which 57 were chosen as outstanding works.
“2012 National Exhibition of Chinese Paintings” is an annual national exhibition of top-class Chinese paintings organized by the Chinese Artists Association including various categories of figures, landscapes, flowers and birds advancing side by side while distinct techniques such as ink and wash, colors, meticulous paintings, freehand, sparse body, density body were all accomplished. This exhibition represents the flourishing characteristics and bold innovations in Chinese painting in the context of great cultural development and prosperity. Meanwhile, artists pay close attention to modern life, showcasing the diversification of creative styles within the main theme as well as the vigor and vitality of Chinese paintings. It will be on view at the China Art Museum in Shanghai until March 24, 2013.
