Even though he is now only 30, JR was awarded the TED Prize in March 2011. JR then launched a global particpative art project: INSIDE OUT. For now more than two years, JR has been developing the INSIDE OUT project worldwide stating that art can change the world.
As a multidisciplinary artist, a photographer, a video maker, JR has been exhibited all around the world in galleries and museums. Last spring for instance he did in Time Square, New York, a giant in-situ installation offering to everyone to print their large size portraits and paste it on the legendary square. Inspired by JR's large ‐ format street "pastings", INSIDE OUT gives everyone the opportunity to share their portrait and make a statement for who / what they are. It is a global platform for people to share their personal identity into a giant work of public art. Each INSIDE OUT project around the world is documented, archived and exhibited online. Over 120,000 people from more than 108 countries have participated. Now iit is coming to China.
In Shanghai JR got famous when in 2010 he exhibited at the Shanghai Biennale at the Shanghai Art Museum & at the Magda Danysz Gallery his previous series called THE WRINKLES OF THE CITY. In this new show, JR presents more recent works mixing photography and installation with different media ranging from cardboard to metal and wood, making unique masterpieces.
