Gallery EXIT is pleased to present "Immeasurably Fair" an exhibition of new works by Beijing-based artist Yang Xinguang. The 10 aluminium and fiberglass reliefs as well as wooden and metal sculptures on show are a continuation of Yang's enquiry into form making without artifice yet they display a shift in his practice as allusion pervades over form.
The exhibition title refers to the latent but nonetheless ubiquitous force of Nature and its unbiased omnipotence. According to the artist, it is a form of spiritual ignition through idealizing an unbounded beauty that is inapplicable to reality. But such visualisation compels one to bring forth the imagined in a tangible existence and thus infinite possibilities are formed into matter.
Golden, a series of aluminium composite plates with protruding geometrical elements illustrates this infallible energy. With unrestrained gestures echoing the violence of a thunderstorm, the metallic surfaces are gouged with untidy marks that depict Chinese imperial architecture. The cosmologically influenced structures are reminders of the intrinsic connection between Heaven and Earth. Their pointed roofs, echoed by the triangular metal extensions, signify a constant propensity towards the ideal and perhaps the beyond.
"Immeasurably Fair" is Yang's second solo exhibition with Gallery EXIT. He has exhibited in a number of solo and group shows at Boers-Li Gallery, Beijing; Art Statements, Art Basel 41, Switzerland; Taikang Space, Beijing; Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing; The 1st Montevideo Biennial, Uruguay and Guangdong Art Museum, Guangdong.
