At 4:00 pm on the afternoon of 12th November 2013, Germany Constructivist Artist Reiner Kallhardt’s first solo exhibition ANTI-IMAGE PORTRY will be held in MOCA Chengdu. That is his first display in China. As the teacher of Zhou Chunya, who once learned paintings in Germany and is now one of the most outstanding Chinese Contemporary artists, Professor Reiner Kallhardt has contributed his whole life to the research and practice of Constructive Art. Produced by Zhou Chunya, curated by famous art historian Lu Peng and organized by MOCA Chengdu and Zhou Chunya Art Institute Shanghai, this exhibition will display artist Reiner Kallhardt’s more than 70 easel paintings and video creation.
Reiner Kallhardt was born in Munich Germany in 1933, graduated from Munich Art Academy in 1955 and Kassel Applied Arts Academy in 1958 with his Master Degree. He was once a student of Fritz Winter, the professor of Munich Art Academy, the head of Munich Art Association and the first principal of Art College of Kassel. As an overseas student from China to German in 1987, Zhou Chunya was Professor Reiner’s first Chinese student. Over the next 20 years, Zhou and Reiner have developed a deep relationship.
Reiner has concentrated on the research and practice of Constructivist Art in his whole life. In the 1960s, relying on his Concrete Art series Permutations, Reiner had laid a stable artistic foundation for him in Constructivist Art. He is undoubtedly an integral part of the chain linking Kasimier Severinovich Malevich from Russia, Mondrian from Holland and Bauhaus from Germany. His artworks not only successfully interpret Constructivist Art basic principles as paintings visually, but also expand art creation freedom within the fields of those principles. Reiner has found his artistic unique essence from the dialectical structure of the world and thereby reflected its construction principle.
Reiner has a deep relationship with China and is attracted to Chinese culture and art. He introduced Yin and Yang into his art creation and made research on Chinese clay collection of sculptures Rent Collection Courtyard for more than 20 years. During his teaching career, he has taught more than 30 Chinese students and has come to China so many times for research and communication with the institutes and scholars in China. This exhibition Reiner Kallhardt: Anti-image Poetry will provide an opportunity for Chinese audiences to appreciate Constructivist Art and for artist Reiner Kallhardt to fulfill his years of desire.
