Jointly hosted by the Hubei Museum of Art and the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, “Academy + Space: Social Dimension - Young Artists Invitational Exhibition” unveiled at the Hubei Museum of Art on April 4, 2014. Yuan Xiaofang and Xia Zi jointly serve as the curators of the exhibition, and Ji Shaofeng, deputy director of the Hubei Museum of Art serves as the academic director. It showcases a total of 21 collections (sets ) of works by 21 artists, involving a variety of media including painting, image, installation and video.
“Academy + Space: Social Dimension - Young Artists Invitational Exhibition” is the first group exhibition of the “Academy Art Space Project” by Hubei Museum of Art. To support the youth group with efficient creation, a long-term exhibition project –“Academy and Art Space Project” is set up by Hubei Museum of Art, which has previously successfully launched academic branded exhibitions “Retrospect and Prospect” series, “20th Century Hubei Fine Arts Literature Exhibition”, “Hall Three Official 1 Exhibition”, “Hubei International Lacquer Triennial”, through the public platform of the museum to promote new artists and new works, to enrich the creative land for young artists, to find and reserve talents for the sustainable development of art ecology.
The exhibition brings together young teachers of the School of Animation of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, most of whom graduated from elite schools both at home and abroad, actively thinking, diligently creating, and integrating the creative experience into their own teaching, which benefits the students a lot. They use various mediums such as paintings, videos, documentaries, images, and installations to create works, some of them pay close attention to social reality, some take care of the inner world, some explore language or concept, which feel young and contemporary.
“Social Dimension” spreads out and enlarges the angle of the academy to some extent, and fully embodies the interactive relationship between the artists and society, this kind of interactive relationship refers to the artists’ individual thought on social reality, and also on the social environmental influences on individual artistic creation. In fact, the social dimension behind the academy prompts us to associate with many things.
The exhibition will continue until April 20, 2014.
