At 3:00 pm on October 26, 2014, hosted by the Chinese Culture Management Association Artists Committee at the Ministry of Culture, supported by CAFA, organized by Beijing Huafangdesheng Culture Investment Management Co., Ltd, planned by Beijing Dayuntang Art Institution “Pursuit of Excellence – Artists from the Academy – The First Nation-wide Touring Exhibition of Oil Painting” launched a press conference at CAFA Art Museum, announcing that the large-scale academic exhibition would officially start.
Gao Hong, Party Secretary of the CAFA, Shao Dazhen, art theorist, the professor of CAFA, Professor Yin Shuangxi from CAFA, Zheng Yi, Director of the Department of Painting of the Academy of Art & Design, Tsinghua University, Wang Xiaolin, Director of the Department of Educational Administration, Cai Wanlin, Art Director of Beijing Dayuntang, Dr. Ge Yujun and more than 30 media representatives attended the press conference.
CAFA is the academic support of the exhibition, in the conference speech Party Secretary Gao Hong said and hoped that through the successful holding of the exhibition, the public could hear the commentary from the academy, at the same time they also hoped that the excellent teaching tradition of oil painting adapts to the development and innovation of the era; striving to create outstanding works which were associated with the era and people. Shao Dazhen mentioned at the press conference, it was the first time that a display of the works by tutors and their students were shown together in China, it was an academic communication by showcasing the works by teachers and graduate students from the academies, to discover the issue that was worth discussing and researching, at the same time it focused on the similarities and differences between the works by young students and their teacher artist generation, to discover the advantages and disadvantages of academy teaching, in order to further explore the future of oil painting teaching of the academies in China. Shao Dazhen also summarized that the current academy education of oil painting still combined a Russian experience, labor and life experience, hoping the new generation have a development and innovation on the basis of the maintenance of a traditional humanistic spirit.
This exhibition is a diversified presentation of teaching, creation and thinking of art propositions by artists from the contemporary academies in China. It features more than 200 works of oil painting by more than 100 young and middle-aged artists from nationwide professional art colleges, collectively showcasing the strong teaching power and latest creative achievements of the backbones and youths from the field of oil painting in contemporary Chinese academies. The artists include mentors from the oil painting disciplines of well-known art academies across the country, as well as the recommended young artists. Although there is a difference of age between the teachers and youths,there is no insurmountable gap, their works in oil painting all reveal the spirit of the present social change that China is transforming into a modern society from a traditional one, as well as the updating of the artistic conception in line with the spirit of the time and the expanding of artistic language.
The exhibition will be held at the Art Museum of Shanghai Oil Painting & Sculpture Institute on November 2, 2014, going through to November 14, following that the tour exhibition will be successively held in Shenyang, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Xi’an, Shijiazhuang, and Beijing.
