HDM Galley is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Huang Yan featuring 9 nylon fiber art installations showing the artist’s conception of time and space. This is the first solo exhibition of Huang Yan and also her first cooperation with the gallery.
The works exhibited are part of the “String” series, wherein the concept of “Lineal energy”, “Geometry”, “Mathematics“, “Mirror symmetry” belonging to “String Theory” are the basis of the artist’s inspiration. The ductility of fiber enables Huang Yan to pull and tighten the nylon on different wooden boards. She thereby achieves a surprising visual effect, which enables viewers to experience a feeling of speed and direction. Meanwhile, the arrangement of color provides a spatial side to the works.
As for the choice of colors, Huang Yan's inspirations come from the impression and inspirations of real life. She focuses on spaces produced by colours. Huang Yan hopes to illustrate the speed of daily life in the most abstracted and straight-forward language through the use of optical illusion.
