Hosted by the Central Academy of Fine Arts and organized by the School of Chinese Painting of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and CAFA Art Museum, “Imparting Replications of Paintings: CAFA Teaching Exhibition Featuring Replicas of Chinese Paintings” made its debut at CAFA Art Museum. This exhibition showcases more than 300 works of tracing, apprenticeship manuscripts and temporary transformation creations of Chinese painting teaching at the Central Academy of Fine Arts over the past century. It aims to explore the academic significance and new value of the ancient methods of “imparting replications of paintings” in the education of Chinese painting in contemporary art colleges and universities, and further to discuss the profound connotation and positive significance of the cognitive system of Chinese painting in the context of globalization.

“Inheriting the classics is the historical responsibility shouldered by Chinese painting in the process of professionalization and academic teaching, as the development and innovation of Chinese painting is inseparable from the inheritance of traditional classic works,” written by Lin Mao, President of CAFA in his preface for the exhibition. “Imparting replications of paintings” is not only a process of exploration and cultivation, but it also provides a source of culture rooted in tradition while serving creations. He thinks that we should not only actively explore new paths for the development of Chinese painting, but  interdisciplinary exchanges and theoretical research on Chinese painting should also be encouraged and promoted, so as to build a more open and sustainable artistic ecology while maintaining the professionalism and purity of Chinese painting.
