This is the third large-scale aggregation of Chinese contemporary works in Changsha with double the number of participating artists compared with the previous two exhibitions. The difference this year from the past two exhibitions, 2011 Art Changsha is that this year, the exhibition includes young artists and middle aged artists. It’s the first time that the curatorial system has been used for this exhibition with “dissociation” being the chosen theme.
Nowadays, Chinese contemporary art plays an active role on the social stage as participating young and middle aged artists represent the general public of these two age groups. Their works illustrate social lives from a different point of view so that we witness the vicissitudes of the age. For further information on this exhibition, the organizer of this exhibition Tan Guobin Museum of Contemporary Art has published a series of books corresponding to this exhibition which emphasizes both an academic and professional readership. Each of the ten volumes focuses on one artist by one critic. The content features the photographs of works exhibited in this exhibition and the related monographic study.
In addition, there are other activities of 2011 Art Changsha including the 3rd Annual Conference of China Contemporary Art Collectors which will be opened on the morning of September 18th in Changsha, Hunan, and is sponsored by the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Propaganda Department of the Changsha Municipal, Tan Guobin Museum of Contemporary Art and the Wall Art Museum. It will promote the professional developments of the collections of art in China.
At 11:05 on September 17th, a special plane full of artists, art critics, art collectors and representatives from art institutions will take off from Beijing to Changsha. All the honorable guests on this “art plane” will attend the opening ceremony at the Hunan Provincial Museum.
